The Lyon County School District transports nearly 47% of our student body on school buses each day.  This amounts to 127,344 miles per year just to and from school. That doesn't include the 20,000 plus miles driven on extracurricular trips each year!

Student safety and welfare is our primary consideration in the implementation of transportation policies and procedures.  When establishing school bus routes, we consider safety, economy of operation, compliance with state and local laws and school time schedules.

School bus drivers in the state of Kentucky must successfully complete the state's school bus training curriculum to be certified to drive a bus.  This consists of several weeks of classroom work, testing and behind the wheel driving.  They also must pass a criminal records check, a motor vehicle records check, a drug screening and a Department of Transportation physical.  Each year our drivers must attend an eight-hour in service training and be evaluated on their driving skills and knowledge of Kentucky State laws.
