Preschool Enrollment Information

Lyon County Head Start/Preschool offers exciting experiences for 3 and 4-year-old children who qualify at 130% of the poverty level.  The preschool is located in Lyon County Elementary School.  Certified teachers and qualified staff work together to offer children the best possible learning environment.  Classes meet Monday through Thursday, from 7:45-11:15 a.m.  Breakfast and lunch are offered daily and limited transportation is provided.  Parent participation in the program is required and is essential for its success.  Lyon County Head Start/Preschool is affiliated with the Audubon Area Head Start.  For more information, please call Opal Hammonds, Family Advocate, at (270) 388-8471.

State Preschool Program (KERA Preschool):  State preschool is targeted to two groups of eligible children who are entitled to services if their parents choose to enroll them:  4-year-olds, who are at 160% of the poverty level and 3 or 4-year-olds with disabilities, regardless of income.  The preschool program is designed to reduce barriers to learning by providing developmentally appropriate preschool educationalong with screeningand coordination of health and social services.  Classes run Monday through Thursday from 8:00-11:00 or 12:00-3:00.  Lunch is served to both classes and limited transportation offered.  Tuition seats are available for 3 and 4-year-olds who do not qualify for Head Start or KERA preschool programs.  These spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis and require a $100 monthly fee.  Class sessions meet for three hours, Monday through Thursday.  Limited transportation is provided for an additional monthly fee.  All Preschool programs operate for 128 days and follow district decisions for snow days and holidays.  Classes usually begin the week after K-12 students begin and will conclude before the end of spring term.  Tina Peery is the Preschool Program Director and Crissy Johnson is the Administrative Assistant.  For more information they can be reached at (270)-388-9715  Ext. 145.

    The third Friday of each month, after 3:00 P.M., routine pesticide treatments will be performed in all buildings.  Services are done by HomePro Advantage using Lambda Cyhalothrin (9.7%) with a pressure sprayer to classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms and utility areas. Targeted pests are spiders, ants, beetles, etc. MSDS information is available upon request.  If your child has any allergies to such treatments, please call Chad Jezik, Safety Director, at (270) 388-9308.  His office is located at 217 Jenkins Road, Eddyville, Kentucky.

    ACT® Prep Workshop

    $300       Sept. 21, 28, and Oct.12, 19

    Please note that two Saturdays are in Paducah and two in Graves Co.  (We will also conduct a Fall Break Workshop October 8-11.)

    The Workshop:  The 16-hour workshop is open to all students from all schools in the area. Students will not only review the subject matter, but will also learn ACT-specific test-taking strategies.  The instructors will teach the different types of questions the ACT uses, methods for handling difficult questions, and tips for dealing with tight time limits. 

     

    Workshop Instructors:      

    Shawn Baldwin, B.S., M.A. will teach the Math and Science sessions

    •  Former teacher at Graves County Middle School

    •  Math tutor 11 years

    •  Scored 35 on ACT, including 36 on both Math and Science sections

     

    •  Kelly King Walden, M.A. in English, will teach the English and Reading sessions

    •  ACT tutor for 13 years

    •  Former English teacher at University of Alabama and WKCTC

     

    Location: Reidland Church of Christ and Lowes Elementary

    Sept. 21 and 28 are at Reidland Church of Christ.

    Oct. 12 and 19 are at Lowes Elementary in Graves Co.

    Both locations run from 10:00-3:00 each Saturday with a one hour break for lunch.

    Cost: $300 for all sessions.  Participants must bring a calculator to the Lowes sessions.

    Earn a $50 discount by referring a friend. Have the friend mention your name when he or she registers.

    Scholarships are available by counselor referral.
