Principal's Message

                                        Perdue Family

Lyon Family,

Starting my sixth year as principal at Lyon County Elementary, I know for certain I work in a special place.  The community involvement and support is second to none.  Residents of Lyon County have a lot to be proud of, including children of remarkable character that exhibit a strong desire to learn.  I appreciate all the efforts from family, staff, and community in rewarding and honoring students that excel in good attendance, positive behavior, and academic achievement. Together we are building a firm foundation for our students and their future.

We know students who attend school on a regular basis do better in school and develop a good work ethic for later in life.  We recognize students and classes with perfect attendance at the end of each quarter and at the end of the year.  A special thanks to our Family Resource Center and PTO for providing rewards and incentives for our students to encourage and promote good habits.

We also teach the importance of showing great character through our school wide Character Counts program. Students are rewarded for showing aspects of each of 10 character traits.  One student from each class is chosen as a leader of that trait each month for special recognition.  The traits emphasized are Trustworthiness, Citizenship, Fairness, Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Enthusiasm, Empathy, Pererverance, and Self-Control.  Teachers use positive reinforcements of good behavior to encourage all students to make good choices.

At Lyon County Elementary, students say,

"Listen and follow all directions."

"Yes, I am ready to learn."

"Only I am responsible for my actions."

"Never give less than my best."

"Show respect to everyone."

Our environment is warm, friendly, and respectful.  It truly is an inviting place to learn and grow.  Students are encouraged to set academic goals and keep track of their growth using assessment data that is shared regularly with parents.  Students that meet academic goals each grading period are recognized in an assembly, as well as students that make A and A/B Honor Roll. Students know their job each day is to study and work hard.  With the help of excellent teachers, students are able to meet and exceed expectations of learning.  The staff is devoted to showing compassion and care to all students, every day, as we look forward to another exciting and successful school year.
